Five Taylor Duane attorneys named 2011 New England Super Lawyers

BOSTON/PROVIDENCE (Oct. 26, 2011) – Five Taylor Duane attorneys have been chosen 2011 New England Super Lawyers, a directory of leading attorneys who are evaluated on various measures of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Partners James J. Duane III and Pamela S. Gilman in the Boston office were named 2011 Massachusetts Super Lawyers.

Duane is a nationally renowned insurance coverage and bad faith insurance litigation attorney, having obtained over the course of his distinguished career numerous favorable court rulings for insurance carrier clients in cases involving intricate interpretations of insurance policy language. He also has extensive trial experience in professional liability, employment, personal injury, and business matters. Duane is a frequent lecturer in the fields of trial practice, insurance coverage and bad faith, and medical risk management.

Gilman is one of the most accomplished trial attorneys in Massachusetts, having tried and won over 50 cases, including medical malpractice, personal injury, premises liability, products liability and business disputes. She also maintains a consulting practice assisting other lawyers in preparing witnesses to present most effectively at depositions and trial. Gilman, administrative partner in the Boston office, was recently named to Best Lawyers in America 2012, and was also honored by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as a Top Woman of Law 2011.

Partner Tamara Smith Holtslag in the Boston office was named a 2011 Massachusetts Rising Star. She was previously named a Rising Star for  four consecutive years from 2005 to 2008, and also in 2010. Smith Holtslag is a seasoned trial lawyer with considerable experience in various areas of civil litigation. Smith Holtslag earlier this year obtained a summary judgment ruling in her insurance client's favor from a federal judge denying a $28 million claim of a large HMO, which was reported in a National Law Journal article.

Associates Matthew R. Plain and Timothy S. Groves in the firm’s Providence office were named 2011 Rhode Island Rising Stars.

Plain devotes a considerable portion of his practice to advising school boards, administrators and teachers on education law issues, including special education, employment, student/staff discipline, and constitutional law. Plain was named by the Providence Business News as one of its 2011 Forty Under 40 winners.

Groves is an experienced civil litigator focusing his practice on professional liability defense, business litigation and education law.  Groves, along with Plain, in a precedent setting ruling earlier this year persuaded the Rhode Island Supreme Court to order a local school district to reimburse the firm’s client, a local independent public charter school, for tuition payments the district had wrongfully withheld under a mistaken interpretation of state law.

The selection process for Super Lawyers includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. Super Lawyers is published as a special section in leading city and regional magazines across the country, including the November 2011 issues of Boston Magazine and Rhode Island Monthly.
