Taylor Duane Barton & Gilman LLP

Brian J. Mullins

Brian J. Mullins's practice is centered on state and federal civil litigation. He focuses on defending against toxic tort, product liability, and medical malpractice claims, as well as employment law.

Representative Accomplishments

Mr. Mullins obtained a favorable settlement in mediation of a premises liability claim against an employer of an injured construction site worker. The firm’s client contributed only 5 percent to the settlement that included two other defendants. He achieved dismissal of a defamation claim against an international fraternal organization, and he also represented a federally-chartered non-profit organization in settling defamation and emotional distress claims for a negligible amount.

A motion for summary judgment and accompanying memorandum of law prepared by Mr. Mullins played a substantial role in persuading a plaintiff to voluntarily dismiss a medical malpractice complaint filed against clients of the firm. Prior to joining Taylor Duane, Mr. Mullins developed litigation experience working in the Suffolk County (Mass.) District Attorney’s Office and the Boston University School of Law’s litigation clinic. He appeared in court for arraignments, bail arguments, and pre-trial hearings. He settled a variety of cases, and also prepared and organized evidence for trial. While in law school, Mr. Mullins was an instructor at the Boston University Summer Term where he taught criminal law to high school students and conducted mock trials.

Professional and Civic Affiliations

Mr. Mullins is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Rhode Island Bar Association. He has presented seminars on the complexities of the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act (G.L. c. 93A) to insurance claims representatives, and he has also participated in local career panels for college students interested in the practice of law. Mr. Mullins has performed pro bono work in the area of landlord-tenant law and tort claims. He also participates in fundraising efforts for the American Heart Association and the National MS Society.
