Joshua B. Walls
Joshua B. Walls is an experienced civil litigator with a focus on employment law, professional liability defense and general liability matters. He has successfully argued cases in state and federal court at the trial and appellate levels.
Mr. Walls has been a panelist and lecturer at employment law seminars involving issues of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and federal law.
Representative Accomplishments
Mr. Walls routinely appears before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and has obtained dismissals of discrimination claims filed against businesses, corporate officers and employees. He has also represented employment clients in state and federal court, and before the Division of Unemployment Assistance. Mr. Walls has drafted and reviewed employee handbooks, and counseled employers on a wide range of workplace issues.
In the professional liability arena, Mr. Walls served as co-trial counsel and played an instrumental role in obtaining a directed verdict in a medical malpractice action filed against a registered nurse for care she provided during childbirth. He persuaded a trial court to dismiss numerous claims that had been leveled against an accounting firm as a result of its audit and forensic investigation of a public agency. Mr. Walls also obtained dismissal of all claims against a contractor who had been accused of negligence, breach of contract and violations of the Massachusetts consumer protection statute in a construction liability case.
At the appellate level, Mr. Walls successfully persuaded the Massachusetts Appeals Court to uphold an award of judgment notwithstanding the verdict in a wrongful death case. He has also written appellate briefs and appeared before the Massachusetts District Court’s Appellate Division.
Professional and Civic Affiliations
Mr. Walls is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Rhode Island Bar Association and Defense Research Institute. Mr. Walls also assists in fundraising efforts for Indego Africa, a non-profit social enterprise whose mission is to help African artisans and their families rise out of poverty.
