Sara E. Sweeney

Sara E. Sweeney is an experienced civil litigator focusing her trial practice on professional liability defense, employment law, premises liability, business litigation and insurance coverage issues.

Representative Accomplishments

Ms. Sweeney has been involved in all facets of civil litigation practice, including participation in a jury trial where she examined expert witnesses, prepared her client for providing testimony, and argued a motion concerning measurement of damages in a case involving a real property dispute. She has argued numerous motions in court, including successfully defeating a summary judgment motion. Ms. Sweeney has also conducted and defended depositions in a variety of cases. She is skilled in alternative dispute resolution, having handled numerous arbitrations and mediations.

Additionally, Ms. Sweeney has drafted various commercial leases, and has participated in negotiating and structuring a multi-million dollar asset purchase. She has advised municipal corporations on federal and state environmental and commercial regulatory compliance issues.

Clerkships

Ms. Sweeney served as a student law clerk to Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice Paul A. Suttell in 2007.

Ms. Sweeney serves on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Women’s Bar Association and is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association.
